INDORE: Lokayukta police on Tuesday arrested a forest deputy ranger for demanding a bribe of Rs 1.2 lakh from the complainant.
Lokayukta inspector Basant Shrivastav had received a complaint from one Suleman Khan, resident of Shernipur in Ratlam district on March 13 that his vehicle carrying wood was seized by officers, who were demanding Rs 1.2 lakh to release and not arrest them in future.
Deputy ranger Tanveer Khan had demanded the money of which they had already given Rs 70,000 to the accused and had agreed to accept the remaining amount in two instalments.
After giving the amount, the complainant had approached police and they had asked him to record the conversation. Suleman recorded the conversation secretly on March 13.
Lokayukta SP Shailendra Singh Chouhan formed a team for the same and the officials reached Ratlam where inspector Rajendra Verma and his team trapped him and arrested him red handed accepting Rs 25,000 cash.
Shrivastav said that a case has been registered against the accused and further Investigations have been initiated.
“He has also been booked inder relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further Investigations are on in the case,” he said.
The complainant told police that this has been happening in the area for the past few months and several persons have given cash to get their vehicles back and such that the vehicles are not seized in future.
