INDORE: Local court on Thursday acquitted five people, accused in murder of police constable, for lack of credible evidence. Court also ordered a departmental inquiry against three constables of Kanadia police station for their questionable role into investigation of the case.
Seventh additional sessions judge Afsar Zaved Khan said that prosecution had failed to bring "cogent, convincing and reliable evidence" on record against the accused to prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Sandeep Singh, constable at Kanadia police station, was found murdered on Bypass road on February 26, 2014. Thereafter, police had arrested Mahavir Singh, 48, Sajjan Singh, 25, Ravindra Singh, 20, Devendra Singh, 35, and Manmohan Singh, 20, all from same family, and resident of Niranjanpur area of Indore.
The 55th paragraph of the order mentioned that behaviour of Pankaj Yadav, Vijendra Parihar and Vikas Jadaun during investigation was suspicious. The order observed that constables were found to be negligent towards their work and directed police department to inform court about action taken against them.
Advocate Amitabh Upadhaya said constables in question were last people to have communication with the deceased. Sandeep’s bike was recovered from constables in question.
"Despite this, police arrested five people of a same family, and made them accused in the case without any evidence," said Upadhaya.
On August 20, court had directed the department to deduct Rs 500 from salary of then Kanadia police station in charge Dilip Singh Choudhary, currently posted at Tukoganj police station, and deposit the amount in court. Court had also issued arrest warrant against Choudhary for ignoring notices of court for recording his statement in the case, added Upadhaya.
