Indore: AC manufacturers chill in the heat as sales up 30%

: Soaring temperature has propelled sales of air-conditioner (AC) in city and state. This season sales of AC have registered a growth of around 30 per cent.

Between April and May, sales of ACs jumped by an average of around 30 per cent as against a year ago in the same period, owing to scorching summer and spate of energy efficient models in market, said leading

Mukundan Menon, sales and marketing president of a leading air conditioning brand having 12.5% of market share said, “we have seen a very strong growth of 30% in sales of ACs as compared to last year. Air coolers have also registered a jump of around 50 per cent in sales.”

Menon expect sales of ACs and coolers to remain good in June as well. AC manufacturers and dealers said that upgraded technologies in AC, energy-efficient models and easy finance scheme led to the spike in sales.

A leading appliances and electronics company, which has its headquarters at Japan, business head (air-conditioners group) Gaurav Sah said, “Triggered by the heightened demand for cooling appliances in summer season, AC sales in Madhya Pradesh started on a positive note. We have clocked more than 40% value growth in ACs in April and May, on the back of a strong demand in the region.”

Demand for inverter AC clubbed with low on electricity consumption models ruled the market, said manufacturers.

Indore registered a record high temperature of 44 degrees Celsius on June 7. Prior to this, on June 3, 1991, the highest maximum temperature recorded in Indore was 45.8 degrees Celsius, according to records of Met.

Gaurav Pahwa from a leading retail chain of electronics in Indore said, “besides temperature, finance has become easy with lots of friendly options that speed up the decision making of customers. Also companies have brought down cost of their products in a range that fits the pockets of customers from different walks of life.”

Retailers and dealers said, with new technology, customers have become technologically advance and make purchases after enquiring about energy efficiency and type of gas used among others.
