INDORE
: Less than 10% of the 160 children, who had applied for monthly pension, free ration and education under the 'Munkyamantri Covid-19 Bal Kalyan Yojana' after losing their one or both
parents
to coronavirus infection, have been found eligible to get the benefits.
Officials of the woman and child development department in Indore district said that during the the scrutiny of the
applications
, they found that only 15 applicants were fulfilling all the criteria under the scheme to get a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 along with free ration and education.
“In the scrutiny, we have found around 20 cases of children, who had lost their one or both parents between March 1 and June 31, 2021. Of them, eight applications have been sent to the district-level committee for its approval to provide the benefits under the scheme,” district child protection officer
Avinash Yadav said.
He added that in the remaining cases, the applicants have been asked to present the required documents, including the death certificates of the parents.
“The remaining applications have been filed by ‘single-parents’ after the death of their spouse and thus, they don’t qualify for ‘Mukhyamantri Covid-19 Bal Kalyan Yojana’.
We however have not dumped these applications and are looking for ways to support them,” he said.
There is a ‘Sponsorship Scheme’ under which the state government provides financial assistance of Rs 2,000 per month to 40 children, who have lost one of their parents. This year, the department has however already processed 42 applications.
