Fraudsters dupe infra company accountant into transferring ₹20L

Indore: Unidentified men duped the accountant of an infrastructure company of Rs 20 lakh by putting a WhatsApp profile picture of the company’s director and asking her to transfer money. Tukoganj police station in-charge Jitendra Yadav said on the complaint of Deepa Sethiya, accountant of a famous infrastructure company, a case was registered and further investigations started. Deepa told police that she had received a message on Whatsapp on June 17 in which the accused identified himself as Mahendra Agarwal, director of the company for which she worked. The accused had also put up the profile picture of the director and asked her to refrain from sharing this number with anyone else as it was his private number.He asked her to deposit Rs 19.9 lakh in an account owned by one Narupa Jagdale which was then transferred to several different accounts. “On complaint of Deepa, account holder Brijesh Kumar Yadav, resident of Bihar, Sunita Devi, resident of Odisha, Abhishek Kumar, resident of Bihar, Sumit Nishad, resident of Uttarakhand and Deepak Kumar, resident of Bihar were booked,” said Yadav.
