Indore: Unidentified persons created a fake account of Mandsaur district collector complete with his picture on an online messenger application and asked four tehsildar and naib-tehsildar level officials to transfer money to a bank account claiming it to be an emergency. The police said on Thursday that the matter came to light when one of the subordinate officials approached the collector and informed him about receiving messages from an unknown number asking for money.
“Four officials including tehsildars and naib-tehsildars received messages from a fake account. The frauds used my picture to create the account to gain trust of the officials and dupe them into transferring money while claiming it to be an emergency,” collector Gautam Singh told TOI.
The incident prompted the collector to immediately make an announcement regarding the fraud and lodge a police complaint against the unidentified fraudsters. “There was no money transaction made by any of the officials, and the matter came to light on time. I have told all my subordinates to not to respond to such messages asking for money,” Singh said.

Mandsaur SP Anurag Sujaniya

said that they have launched a probe into the collector’s complaint. “Our cyber cell is working on the case, and we are trying to identify the accused on the basis of the number used for creating the fake account and bank account details,”
