Former ADM appears in court over demolition case
INDORE: Former ADM of Indore and collector of Vidisha district, C B Singh, appeared before the special court on Monday in connection with case related to demolition of a building in south Tukoganj area in 1996 with the help of dynamite. The statement of former Indore collector S R Mohanty will be recorded at the next hearing. This was the first building which was demolished with dynamite in Indore.
In 1996, a three-storeyed building was razed to the ground by the district administration and the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). The building was in news as it was constructed right in front of the houses of Mayor and Municipal Commissioner.
When the issue had come to the notice of the then collector M Gopal Reddy, he wrote a letter to the IMC seeking appropriate action. Thereafter, the IMC and the administration demolished the building in a joint operation.
Singh was the ADM and in-charge of law and order during the operation. Later, the Economic Offences Wing registered a case, and issued a challan against IMC officials for laxity in the case.
According to special prosecutor Ashlesh Sharma, a total 75 witnesses have been examined in the case. Singh, who had given a statement, was summoned on Monday to confirm his stand.
