INDORE: MG road police on Sunday night arrested two of the five contractors booked in the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) fake pay order scam.
"Acting on a tip off, Mohammad Sajid, proprietor of M/s Neev construction and his brother Mohammad Zakir, proprietor in M/s King Construction, both residents of Madina Nagar were arrested from IT Park," said additional commissioner Amit Singh.
MG road police on Sunday morning raided eight spots including the residences and offices of the absconding accused in the scam.
A team of senior police officials and Indore civic body officials first reached the house ofan accused Rahul Wadera in Apollo DB city midtown and then subsequently to the three houses in Madina Nagar.
MG road police station in-charge Vijay Sisodiya said house of Rahul Vadera and his wife Renu in Apollo DB city uptown was raided and important documents, files and pendrive were seized from the spot along with passport, bank passbooks and registry of the house, map and other items from the spot.
Police also seized one expensive four wheeler. After this, the officials raided the accused's house in Madina Nagar.
IMC, which has formed a committee of senior officials to probe the scam, had discovered around 98 files submitted in last 10 years between 2015 and 2024 by five firms - M/s Neev Construction (Proprietor Mohammad Sajid), M/s Green Construction (Proprietor Mohammad Siddiqui), M/s King Construction (Proprietor Mohammad Zakir), all three residents of Madina Nagar, along with M/s Kshitij Enterprises (Proprietor Renu Vadera) and M/s Jahanvi Enterprises (Proprietor Rahul Vadera), both residents of Ashish Nagar.
The official sources revealed that these five accused (proprietors of five firms), used a modus operandi to initially produce the files of small-scale works of drainage and other departments, and win the trust of IMC employees, before starting to submit fake pay orders and forged documents to fraudulently claim payment to the tune of crores of rupees.
As part of the ongoing probe, the committee led by IMC additional commissioner Siddhartha Jain recorded statements of the officials concerned, whose 'signatures' were used or who cleared the files and proceeded for payment.
