Ujjain: An 80-year-old man was killed when a car travelling from Betul to Mahakal temple collided with a truck, 11 km from Ujjain city, near the airstrip on Dewas Road early on Thursday.
Narwar police station in-charge, Ballu Mandloi said that late Wednesday night, Yashwant Shinde, 80, from Betul, was travelling with his wife Suman Rao, son-in-law Dadarav and relative Ravi in a car to visit Mahakal temple in Ujjain. Around 2 AM, near the airstrip on Dewas Road under Narwar police station area, their car collided with a truck while attempting to overtake. The accident left the car damaged and all passengers injured.
Upon receiving information about the accident, an ambulance and police arrived at the scene. The injured were taken out of the car and brought to Charak Hospital, where doctors declared Yashwant Rao dead. Due to the serious condition of Dadarav and Ravi, they were admitted to the hospital. Yashwant's wife escaped with minor injuries.
The police conducted a postmortem examination and handed over Rao's body to the family. The family then took his body to Betul for the last rites.
