Talking to ToI, Indore regional transport officer Sanjay Soni, said, "The drive was in effect since its launch in December. However, we are taking it more rigorously after the Friday incident."
Soni said that the drive is not well equipped to implement the SC guidelines. "We have not been provided the visibility measurement device. Though we have applied for procurement of the devices with the relevant department, we are yet to get any. We are not sure about what time we will be able to get them."
Assistant superintendent of police (Traffic) Anjana Tiwary said, "We have been working constantly on the drive. Although the buses had also been taken into account earlier, we are working more extensively on them than in the past. Majority of the buses have tinted glasses rather than films and this is a big problem. We can take action against films on the spot but there isn't much that we can do about the glass. Though we fine them and being fined repeatedly might help."
The drive against dark films has been successful so far in connection with private four-wheelers. "We have issued challans against more than 16,000 four-wheelers in the city so far. Also, we plan to continue the drive and expect the scenario to get better. We also have ordered for two such visibility measurement devices for tinted glasses. Those devices will help make the drive more effective," she added.
