INDORE: A woman, who had to cancel her trip last month to the United States of America (USA) after rabies injection needle got stuck inside her body, has sent a
legal notice to the doctor and Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). Accusing of lackadaisical behavior and negligence, she has asked them to pay the expenses incurred on operation.
58-year-old Pramila Nigote was bitten by a stray dog on May 27 when she went to meet her relatives in Sukhliya along with husband Ravindra Singh Nigote.
Couple spotted a hospital in Nyay Nagar and asked the doctor for treatment.
"Doctor-on-duty asked me to get anti-rabies injection from the medical store on the hospital premises. As the nurse injected the needle, it broke inside Pramila body, leaving her writhing in pain," said Ravindra Nigote.
"After doctors confirmed the broken needle, we were asked to wait till morning to get it operated. But we refused to stay there and went to another hospital where my wife got operated on May 28," said Nigote.
"Pramila got 22 stitches following the operation to get the needle out of her body. We had to spend over Rs 1 lakh, including medical expenses on the treatment. We also had to cancel our trip to USA planned for meeting our children there on June 11," said Nigote.
The couple has lodged a complaint at Hira Nagar police station against the doctor and private hospital for wrongly injecting Pramila. "We have also sent a letter to Indore IG and DIG regarding the matter," he said.
Victim’s lawyer Indrajeet Bhatia said a legal notice has been sent to IMC commissioner, chief health officer and the doctor. "In 2014, Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh high court had directed IMC to provide free medical treatment to those affected by dog bite. Hence, we asked the respondents to pay Rs 3.5 lakh for mental and physical agony caused to the victims," said Bhatia, adding we would take further legal action if the respondents fail to give a satisfactory reply.
