Crop loss drives farmer to suicide in MP
Indore: Distressed by crop loss, a 48-year-old tribal farmer died by suicide in MP’s Khandwa district on Thursday.
The victim, Pandhri Bheel, had taken a loan of Rs 3 lakh to plough his 3-acre land and another 6 acres he had taken on contract, his son Pradeep told TOI. The family lives in Goradia village, 135km south of Indore.

The next morning some women found his body hanging from a tree near our house,” he said.
Police recovered his body and sent it for autopsy. “He was under stress as heavy rain had destroyed our crop,” said Pradeep, adding that he was also anxious about arranging money for the marriage of his three daughters, all of whom are adults.
“Preliminary findings suggest he was under pressure following the destruction of his crops due to rain. He had taken a loan and needed to repay it,” said investigation officer Rajendra Singh Rathore. Police are yet to take down the statements of his family. tnn
