Community feasts to be considered as poll expense

Indore: As per ECI’s guidelines, expenses incurred by a candidate participating in community feasts or ‘Langar’ or ‘Daawat’ to meet voters will be considered as election expenditure and to be added to the candidate’s election accounts.

The ECI clarified that any costs incurred in such community feasts, even if organised under a different name or by the candidate or someone else, will be included in the candidate’s election expenses, if he/she participates. However, any expenses at such community feasts, ‘Langar’, or receptions will not be considered as part of the candidate’s election expenses unless the candidate participates as a normal guest. TNN
