Ujjain: In a unique initiative to achieve 100% voting from 230 centenarians in district, Ujjain district election officer has appointed
Anganwadi workers, who will help families of the elderly in bringing them to polling booth in a vehicle and then drop them home.
“A special team has been given the task to get centenarians to polling booths. We are aiming at cent per cent voting.
The workers will reach their houses at 8am and will finish the voting procedure within an hour at all polling booths,” said Manish Singh, district election officer.
The booth-level officers have also been alerted about centenarians in their areas and they will make sure that these people exercise their franchise with ease on November 28.
Of 1,777 polling booths across district, there are over 6,222 specially-abled voters on 1,252 booths. Arrangements these specially-abled voters will include 1,300 wheelchairs. 500 of these wheelchairs have been provided by a company under their CSR activity. The officials said that ramp has also been created at these polling booths so that the voters can reach the booth on their wheelchairs.
Meanwhile, since there is no electricity at several polling booths of total 170 in the district, a special team will reach the spot in the evening on November 26 and connections will be done on the same day. The district has received Rs17 lakh for this.
Around 353 polling booths fall under the seven vulnerable areas of the district and security has been beefed up in these areas.
