CBSE’s digital evaluation system sees early hiccups in practise phase in Indore

Indore: Minor technical hiccups surfaced during the initial practise phase of the on-screen marking system introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education for evaluation of Class 12 board examination answer sheets in Indore.The digital assessment process is expected to begin next week after teachers complete trial exercises and become familiar with the new platform. As part of the preparation, examiners were sent sample answer sheets to practise checking copies on computers instead of using the conventional manual method. During this testing stage, some teachers reported that the process initially took more time as they adapted to reading handwritten responses on a screen and navigating the digital interface.While a number of experienced evaluators were able to assess a sample copy within 20 to 30 minutes, others said their first attempt took longer, ranging from about 1 hour to nearly 90 minutes. Teachers noted that the additional time was largely due to adjusting to the new format rather than difficulties with the answers themselves.A few evaluators also faced brief delays during online registration as one-time passwords were not received immediately. In such cases, the board resent the login links to ensure that teachers could complete the registration and proceed with the practice session.Teachers shared feedback about these early experiences through their schools so that the system can be further streamlined before the evaluation work begins on a larger scale. Many examiners believe the time taken to check copies will reduce significantly once they gain familiarity with the digital process.CBSE city coordinator UK Jha said the practice exercise was designed to help teachers get comfortable with the system before the actual evaluation begins. "Once teachers use the platform regularly, the time required to assess each copy will come down considerably," he said.Each evaluator will be issued ID passwords for the on-screen evaluation work through the dedicated software. Additionally, no hard copies of answer sheets will be sent to the evaluation centres as in previous years; instead, the board will share scanned answer sheets with individual evaluators.
