BSF constable Dhiramoni Rai adjudged best shooter at All India Police Shooting Sports C’ship

Indore: Dhiramoni Rai, a constable of the Border Security Force (BSF), stood out as the finest markswoman at the 19th All India Police Shooting Sports Championship, winning the All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB) chairman's trophy for the best shooter and anchoring a strong show by the BSF contingent.The championship concluded on Sunday at Reoti Ranges, organised by the Central School of Weapons and Tactics in Indore, after six days of intense competition.
Rai's composure under pressure drew praise from officials and fellow competitors. Her performance capped a successful campaign for the BSF women's team, which secured the overall championship trophy in the women's category. The force also claimed the best rifle and best pistol trophies among women, underlining its depth across disciplines.In other events of women, shooters from Assam Rifles, CISF and Uttar Pradesh featured prominently on the podium across pistol and air rifle categories. Among men, CISF clinched the overall championship trophy, while SSB finished runner-up. BSF captured the best rifle trophy in the men's section and CISF topped the pistol standings.Notable individual performances included BSF's Chandra Raj, who won gold in the .177 air pistol 10 metre men's event and Uttar Pradesh shooters, who dominated the .177 air rifle 10 metre team competition. The .22 standard pistol 25 metre men's individual event saw CISF deputy commandant Samresh Jung take gold. ITBP's constable Shantanu Pundir won silver and CISF's ASI Aniruddh Singh Rana secured bronze. In the corresponding team event, CISF again finished on top with head constable Udit Joshi, ASI Aniruddh Singh and Jung forming the gold medal team. Punjab Police claimed silver through constables Prabhjit Singh and Baljit Singh along with ASI Akshay Jain, while SSB earned bronze with Anil Singh, Sarang Chauhan and constable Uttam Gandhar.More than 600 shooters from Central Armed Police Forces, state police units and the Union Territories took part in 17 events. The tournament was conducted under the supervision of the AIPSCB, ministry of home affairs, with technical support from the National Rifle Association of India.The closing ceremony featured a ceremonial march past by participating contingents and medal presentations to winners. Senior officials commended the shooters for maintaining high standards of discipline and sportsmanship throughout the championship.
