Indore: Burhanpur district administration, with help of locals, has started making ‘Bori Bandhan’ — a desi-jugaad to develop a makeshift dam — for water conservation of Tapti river.
On Monday, MP Gyaneshwar Patil reached Rajghat banks of Tapti river and voluntarily worked in ongoing ‘Bori Bandhan’ drive to stop water of Tapti River. He also urged locals to make their contribution in developing the makeshift dam at the river under the district administration’s ‘Pani Roko Abhiyan’.
Burhanpur collector Bhavya Mittal, who had also participated in the drive, and worked with locals in filling sage with stones, sand and placing the same to help stop water of Tapti river, said that the drive would help in increasing groundwater level along with solving its shortage during summers. The makeshift dam is expected to ensure availability of water till the month of June this year.
People of many villages nearby Rajghat are depended on Tapti river for water. But the river goes dry during the summer. This initiative, however, is expected to solve the water shortage problem, senior administrative officials said.
So far, former minister Archana Chitnis, mayor Madhuri Patel, zila panchayat CEO Gangaram Marco, commissioner Sandeep Shrivastava along with several locals have made their contribution in making of the makeshift dam.
