Indore: 3 held with Rs 1 cr old notes are just carriers, say cops
INDORE: Following the arrest of three persons from Teen Imli square with Rs 1 crore
Bhanwarkuan police station in charge Sanjay Shukla told TOI that the accused had brought the notes from Aurangabad to Indore.
“The notes belonged to a trader in Surat, who had contacted a commission worker in Aurangabad and asked him to get rid of the notes for whatever price that he offered. The man in Aurangabad promised him 25% return on the demonetised cash,” said Shukla adding that Rs 10 lakh was sent to the man in Aurangabad who then arranged for the carriers who transported the cash to Indore.
Police said that the accused arrested on Thursday were just carriers, who were working on a commission basis and were only transporting the notes. They were questioning the accused to know about the businessman, who had sent the notes to Indore with the help of the men.
Bhanwarkuan police had on Thursday arrested three persons and seized demonetised currency notes with a face value of Rs 1 crore from their possession on a tip-off from ATS.
The ATS sleuths are looking at the modus operandi of accused who are still dealing in demonetised money and transporting it to various places to get returns in legal tender.
The ATS chief Sanjeev Shami told TOI that various agencies were trying to find out the motives of people behind circulating old currencies and were tracking them.
“Many arrests have been made in this regard from the entire country. We are exploring their patterns in transportation of demonetised cash,” Shami told TOI.
