Betting ring: ED conducts search operation at five locations

Indore: Enforcement Directorate (ED) Indore on Friday conducted search operation at five locations in Indore, Ujjain and Ludhiana in a case of illegal cricket/tennis betting and seized incriminating documents, digital devices and Rs 31 lakh unaccounted cash. Bank accounts, fixed deposits, and mutual funds totalling around Rs 8 crore were frozen.
"The ED had launched an investigation based on an FIR registered by Ujjain police. The investigation revealed that a person, Piyush Chopra, in connivance with his associates, generated proceeds of crime by running an cricket betting operation on a large scale using SIM cards procured with fake documents," an official press release stated.
Chopra had established a betting setup where he and his associates placed bets on a website and used hawala transactions to fund the bets and receive the proceeds. All betting transactions were tracked using a software ‘Horse,' which was obtained the by prime accused through Abhay Chopra and Sanjay Agrawal, who were also allegedly involved in online betting activities and generating illicit proceeds.
