Indore: Indoreans woke up to a Sunday with temperature already above normal levels after a warm and slightly uncomfortable night. The city recorded its warmest night of the season so far, even as meteorologists pointed to changing weather systems that may bring rain and thunderstorms to western parts of Madhya Pradesh in the coming days.
According to Met observatory in Indore, though the maximum temperature on Sunday dropped to 35.5 degrees Celsius, it was two degrees above the seasonal average. It was lower than Saturday's maximum of 36.7 degrees Celsius, around three degrees above normal. The minimum temperature in the city rose sharply to 19.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday, nearly three degrees above normal and about 1.2 degrees higher than the previous night, making it the warmest night of the current season so far.
Winds during the day blew from the west and south-west directions, reaching speeds of up to 12 km per hour.
Senior meteorologist Divya E Surendran said that multiple atmospheric systems are currently influencing weather conditions across the region. A western disturbance persists as an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Punjab, while another cyclonic circulation is present over south Haryana and adjoining areas.
In addition, a trough extending from Marathwada to north interior Tamil Nadu across interior Karnataka, and strong subtropical westerly winds over west India, are shaping the prevailing weather pattern.
A fresh western disturbance is expected to affect north-west India from the night of March 17, which could lead to increased cloudiness and weather activity in parts of Madhya Pradesh.
Districts in western Madhya Pradesh, including Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Jhabua, Alirajpur and Barwani, may witness cloud cover, light rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next few days.
Indore and surrounding areas, however, are likely to remain relatively warm for now. Meteorologists say temperatures may begin to decline gradually later in the week, with day temperature possibly dropping to around 29–30 degrees Celsius and night temperature to nearly 13–15 degrees Celsius, bringing some relief from the early summer heat currently being felt in the region.
