The authorities plan to make the facility available for storing Covid-19 vaccines that are expected to be received in a large quantity for supply across

Malwa-Nimar

region.

“We would be happy to make our perishable cargo facility available for storage of Covid vaccines if it can meet the temperature requirement,”

Devi Ahilyabai Holkar

airport director Aryama Sanyal said.

She said that the centre, which is almost ready, has been set up with an aim to export and import perishable items like medicines, fruits and vegetables.

Indore MP Shankar Lalwani too has written to the

union ministry

of civil aviation regarding the usage of this facility for storing the vaccine.

“I have requested the ministry to issue directives to authorities in-charge of cargo terminal and cold storage facility at Indore airport (AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Limited) to make arrangements in advance to meet the possible temperature requirement for the vaccine,” Lalwani said while speaking to TOI.

The MP said that the current cold storage facility at the new cargo terminal of the airport can meet requirements of minus 8 degree Celsius. “The cold storage facility’s temperature can be controlled up to minus 15 degree Celsius. I have requested the ministry to issue directives in this regard so that the vaccine could be kept in a suitable environment at the airport and made available for citizens of Indore on time,” he said. “Storing the vaccine at the airport was the most suitable option from a safety point of view,” Lalwani said.
