7 common infra facilities at Ujjain Medical Devices Park to begin ops this year, units begin rollout

Indore: Seven common infrastructure facilities at the Medical Devices Park inUjjainare expected to be operational by this year. The facilities will allow manufacturers of diagnostic kits for diseases such as cancer, kidney ailments and diabetes, blood glucose monitoring systems, vacuum-assisted wound closure systems and other equipment to access advanced machinery and testing tools within the park.Machinery installation has already begun for these shared facilities, signalling a shift from planning to execution at the park, which is being positioned as a hub for high-end medical device manufacturing. The move is expected to reduce dependence on external testing centres, lower compliance costs and improve turnaround time for product validation.The infrastructure being developed includes a 3D printing and prototyping centre, plastic processing, assembly and packaging unit, electrical safety and performance testing lab for electromedical equipment, tool room for mould and die manufacturing, PCB manufacturing unit, biomedical and biocompatibility testing lab, and micro and sterility testing lab. These facilities aim to support end-to-end product development within the park itself.Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation Ujjainexecutive director Rajesh Rathod said, "Once functional, the facilities will significantly reduce testing and validation costs for industries as they will not have to depend on external labs. It will also shorten product development cycles and improve ease of doing business for manufacturers operating within the park."Spread across 360 acres, the park has been fully allotted, with 126 industries taking up land. Around 18 units have already begun construction, while four have entered the production phase, indicating early traction on the ground.The project entails proposed investments of Rs 3,265 crore and is expected to generate employment for over 12,800 people, making it one of the key industrial clusters in the state's emerging medical devices ecosystem.
