and place orders from the convenience of their vehicle, all the while blocking traffic behind them. But then again, finding a proper spot to park a four wheeler here, is no easy task and has only been getting from bad to worse. Haphazard

, persistent honking and traffic chaos has become a way of life at 56 Dukaan and the locals seem to have made peace with that. But not visitors who are new to the city. Priyank Jain an MBA marketing first year student who recently shifted to Indore, shares, “Everyone seems to be nonchalant about the traffic chaos near their food joints. Both shopkeepers and visitors are used to the honking and work on mutual understanding to park their vehicles to avoid getting into a fight. But why is there no system in place?”

We took that question to the authorities and were told that a meeting was held at South Tokoganj police station recently, to discuss a solution to streamline the traffic disorder at 56 Dukaan. Rajkumar Yadav, Thana Inspector of

South Tukoganj

station shares, “Earlier this month, we held a meeting to discuss what could be done to ease the traffic at 56 Dukaan during the festive season, as this is when visitors throng the place. We will be demarcating a parking area and divider so that there is a clear distinction. Vehicles that are parked outside the parking space will be lifted by vehicle collecting vans.” The inspector adds, "We deploy four cops on a daily basis to ensure people don’t park vehicles in a haphazard manner and the traffic is smooth. On weekends and during festive season extra traffic force is deployed to take care of traffic disorder and to give challans to violators. Visitors are only allowed to park their vehicles on either side of the lane and not in the middle of the road.”

Meanwhile, shop owners at 56 Dukaan feel that the food street only attracts visitors who come for the food and not commuters. Gunjan Sharma, spokesperson from the

Association of 56 Dukaan

owners shares, “The road is barely used by daily commuters as there are many alternate routes for going to other places in the city. If the administration plans to make a dedicated parking space near the food street, they could consider the open ground of Swami Vivekananda School. A few guards can be deployed there to take care of the parking and the Association of 56 Dukaan Owners would give the administration complete support.”

“When the parking space is full, the cops on duty ensure to put barricades on both ends of the road and not allow vehicles to use the road for commuting. On weekends we don’t allow visitors to take their cars beyond the barricades. Also, the entry of public transport vehicles like buses, vans and heavy vehicles like trucks is prohibited in the area, so the road usually is used by the people who come particularly to visit 56 Dukaan. However, we are exploring grounds in nearby areas to develop a dedicated parking space for 56 Dukaan.”
