50+ burn marks on body: MP bride tortured for looks; branded by husband with hot knife for 'not being beautiful'
KHARGONE: Newly married bride Khushboo was branded with a hot knife by her husband in Anjad of Barwani district after he allegedly accused her of ‘not being beautiful.’
More than 50 burn marks were found on her body. She filed a police complaint after returning to her maternal home in the adjoining Khargone district on Monday.
Khargone SP Dharmaraj told TOI that the husband, Dilip Pipaliya, was booked early on Tuesday for voluntarily causing hurt, voluntary obstruction, and cruelty towards the woman under sections 115 (2), 118, 126, and 85 of BNS by Jaitpur police.
Khushboo told media persons that she is a resident of Avarakchh village of Mengaon police station area of Khargone district and was married to Dilip Pipaliya, who works as a scrap dealer in Anjad of Barwani district, on February 2. She alleged that Dilip was not happy with her since marriage and accused her of not being beautiful.
On Sunday night, Dilip came home drunk, beat her, and then dragged her to the kitchen. Khushboo alleged that he tied her hands and legs, heated a knife on the kitchen stove, and branded her in many places on both hands, back, and hip. About 50 brand marks are visible on her body.
Khushboo’s father, Lokesh Verma, alleged before reporters that the family of Dilip Pipaliya had harassed her for dowry. They reached his home in Mengaon on Monday afternoon in two vehicles and threatened dire action if Khushboo did not return home.
On the other hand, the woman's in-laws called the allegations baseless and said that her wounds were self-inflicted. They added that Dilip liked Khushboo and married her with great pomp and show.
Jaitapur police station in-charge, Sudarshan Kalosiya, said that since the case is related to Anjad police station, it will be transferred.
