Mhow: Five persons posing as Income Tax officials carried out robbery at a contractor's residence in Brahmin Mohalla of Baag in Dhar district on Friday morning.
"The incident occurred around 10 am. Five men entered house of contractor Rajkumar Malviya claiming that they had to carry out Income Tax search of the residence to uncover black money. They then took Malviya and his wife, Krishna, hostage and asked Krishna to hand over almirah keys. Thereafter, they took gold ornaments weighing nearly half a kg, which included jewellery belonging to couple's daughter, Rs 4 lakh cash and three mobile phones from them. Before leaving, they locked the couple inside a room," Manawar SDO (police) Sunil Gupta told TOI,
Malviya alerted neighbours by shouting for help. The neighbours contacted Baag police, who arrived at the house, broke the lock and rescued the couple.
Gupta said that the in-charges of Baag and Kukshi police stations, Kailash Chohan and Rajesh Yadav, reached the house and during a preliminary search, one of the mobile phones of Malviya couple was recovered from a garbage heap on the Bypass Road.
