4 villages in Dewas flooded, evacuated

Indore: Relentless rains swamped four villages in Dewas district forcing people to leave houses due to flooding and take shelter in schools and guest houses.Dharaji, Nayagaun, Kothmir and Gurada villages in Dewas district were affected due to flooding, pressing the district administration into action that deployed teams of home guards, police and local officials to carry out the evacuation. Dewas collector Rishav Gupta said, “Flooding was reported in four villages of Dharaji, Nayagaun, Kothmir and Gurada in Dewas district. We have pressed teams of home guards, police and local officials into action that evacuated families and put them in safe places. Looking at the rain warnings, we had in advance identified some schools and dharmshalas for evacuation to place people. We are keeping a close watch and the situation is under control.” Many low-lying areas in Sonkatch were flooded with water while the bus stand of Sonkach, mosque, and temples were submerged in the water. Heavy rains throughout the day left many houses trapped with waterlogging. Rainwater seeped into many houses in Dewas, Bagli, Kahtegaon and other places in Dewas district. Sandeep Shiva, SDM, Sonkatch said, “Overflowing Kali Sindh river has caused flooding in some parts of the district in Sonkatch. We have put barricades at all important places and bridges to keep people at a safe distance.” 150 people along with their animals were evacuated until 7:15 pm on Saturday. TNN

UP rains: 19 people killed in past 24 hours, schools shut in some districts

Fresh spell of rain in Indore and neighbouring districts

Indore and nearby districts experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, bringing relief to farmers and replenishing water bodies. In the last 24 hours, Indore received over 87 mm of rainfall, and a total of 137.8 mm in the past three days. The Met department predicts further rainfall in the coming days, which will raise the water table. A cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal, bringing more rain to the eastern part of the state.
