4 cops accused of swapping illegal liquor with snacks, shifted
Barwani: Four policemen, including Julwania police station in charge, were shifted for allegedly replacing illegal liquor with 'Kurkure' (snacks) in Julwania police station area of Barwani district.
Nimar zone DIG Siddharth Bahuguna told TOI, "Based on a preliminary investigation of a complaint about illegal transportation of liquor, Barwani SP attached four policemen, including Julwania SHO, to police lines. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against them. Barwani ASP Anil Patidar will investigate the case. Further action will be taken based on his probe report."
Barwani SP Jagdish Dabar said that on Feb 14, a vehicle (MP 04 CB658), was stopped by sarpanch and villagers of Bhorwada gram panchayat in Julwania area. Upon receiving information, Julwania police team arrived and inquired about the matter. The team mentioned in their report that 'Kurkure' (a type of snacks) was found in the vehicle, and that's why they released it.
A seizure panchnama or other information about the vehicle was not obtained. So, prima facie, a serious error was found on the part of the policemen, he said.
The SP said, "On the complaint (which went viral with a video on social media) of the villagers, Rajpur sub-divisional officer (police) Ayush Alawa submitted a report after conducting a preliminary inquiry into the matter, in which the allegations of the villagers were found true. So, Julwania police station in charge Sunita Mandloi, assistant sub inspectors Gopal Solanki and Gajanan Chauhan and head constable Poonam Singh Baghel were attached to the police lines late on Tuesday."
