@39.9oC, Indore records hottest day of the season

Indore: The city experienced scorching heat as it witnessed the hottest day of the year so far on Tuesday. With the summer season reaching its peak, the maximum temperature soared to 39.9 degrees Celsius in the city on Tuesday.This surpassed the previous record of 39.6 degrees Celsius, which was set on March 17. Weather experts said that the temperatures are likely to climb even higher in the upcoming days. “An increase of 2-3 degrees Celsius in the maximum and minimum temperatures is likely to be witnessed in Indore and neighboring parts,” HS Pandey, a meteorologist from the Indian Meteorological Department Bhopal. Despite the intense heat during the day, the minimum temperature in Indore was recorded as 24 degrees Celsius. As the city battles the sweltering heat, after a long spell of unseasonal rainfall, residents of Indore are facing numerous challenges due to the scorching sun. Streets and public spaces remained relatively deserted during the peak hours of the day as people preferred to be indoors. On Tuesday, the city recorded 39 degree Celsius in the evening at 5.30 pm making the evening hours hot. “I stepped out for some urgent work during the afternoon today and it was so difficult to be in the sun for even a few minutes. I came back home totally drained only in a hour,” said Ashima Sharma, a working professional from the city. Indoreans are not likely to get any respite from the heat anytime soon. “No upcoming systems can be seen that can attribute to any rainfall activity in the state in the coming days,” added the weatherman.
