in Silauda Panchayat of Khandwa, were thrashed allegedly by a group of people over a dispute about removal of encroachments from a government land, the police said on Monday.

Sarpanch’s husband Ajiz Khan told the police that the accused Kalu and his relatives came to his house and started arguing with his nephew Sameer Khan on Sunday night.
He alleged that the accused were drunks, and when he and his brother tried to intervene in the matter, the accused attacked and thrashed them with wooden sticks. The accused have made illegal constructions on the land where an overhead tank has been planned by the panchayat, and he claimed the accused were irked over the plan of removing their encroachments. Police station in-charge Rajeev Patil said that five people including the sarpanch’s husband received minor injuries in the incident and were taken to a hospital for first-aid. TNN
