INDORE: Two children drowned in a pond in Bhawani Nagar under Banganga police station area on Friday evening.
The victims were identified as Malkhan (12), son of Jitendra Narwariya, and Lak (10), son of Omprakash Thakur, both residents of Bhawani Nagar. Police recorded the deaths and sent the bodies for post-mortem to Aurobindo Hospital.
According to officials, the children had gone to the pond with a friend to bathe. While swimming, Malkhan and Lak ventured into deeper water and failed to come out. Their companion panicked and informed the families after some delay. Soon after, residents rushed to the pond and launched a search. After hours of effort, locals identified as Bhola and Chhotu managed to pull out the bodies around 11 pm.
Lak’s father works in a factory. Malkhan, a Class VII student at a private school, left behind a younger brother. His parents live separately, with his mother residing in Indore for the past three years due to a family dispute, while his father stays in Basoda.
Residents said the incident has highlighted a serious safety concern in the area, pointing out that this was the third drowning case in the pond in recent times. They have urged the administration to take immediate steps to ensure safety measures and prevent such tragedies in the future.
