Mhow: The 135th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar was commemorated with reverence at his birthplace in Mhow on Tuesday as hundreds of followers reached the memorial to pay their tributes.
Chief minister Mohan Yadav paid floral tributes to the architect of Constitution and also visited memorial of Bhante Dharmsheel, located on the premises.
Addressing the mediapersons, Yadav described Ambedkar as a visionary leader who laid the foundation of equality through Constitution. "He ensured rights for women, including property and legal protection, and provided reservations for deprived sections of society," he said.
Later, addressing a public gathering near the memorial, Yadav said that the government was promoting social equality through programmes such as financial incentives for inter-caste marriages and reiterated the Centre's commitment to implementing 33% reservation for women in legislatures.
Several leaders, including union minister Savitri Thakur, MLA Usha Thakur, minister Tulsiram Silawat, and Alok Kumar, were present on the occasion.
The Ambedkar memorial complex in Mhow, officially known as Dr Ambedkar Nagar, has become a key pilgrimage site, drawing thousands of visitors, scholars, and followers each year, especially on his birth anniversary.
