GUWAHATI: Repolling has been ordered in 11 stations in the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency on Monday. These centres had seen violence and booth capturing attempts in the first phase on April 19.
According to state chief electoral officer Pradeep Kumar Jha, repolling will be held in two polling stations under Khurai assembly segment, four under Kshetrigao segment, one under Thongju segment, three under Uripok segment and one under Konthoujam segment. "Voters of these polling stations are appealed to come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise," Jha said.
Over 70% polling was recorded in Manipur in the first phase despite firing by gunmen in which one person was injured. Booth-capturing attempts in some areas prompted angry voters to vandalise polling stations. Citing the violence, Congress had demanded repolls in 47 polling stations against the 11 ordered now.
The Inner Manipur LS seat comprises 32 of the 60 assembly segments of the state and all went to polls on Friday. The remaining assembly segments of Outer Manipur will go to polls on April 26.
