IMPHAL: Hours after BJP released its list of 60 candidates for the Manipur assembly polls on Sunday, angry supporters of its rejected candidates burnt flags and posters and shouted slogans against the party leaders.


Irate people came out in the streets and protested at the Sagolband seat in Imphal West district and Tamenglong district’s Tamei constituency.

Following the announcement of tickets, heavy security has been deployed at Thambal Shanglen, the Manipur unit BJP’s headoffice in Imphal city and other strategic areas where possible violence may break out.

For Sagolband seat, the party allocated the ticket to turncoat MLA RK Imo Singh after dropping BJP leader and former MLA Kh Loken Singh and for Tamei constituency, the party named Wilubou Newmai after setting aside former legislator

Irate workers of Kh Loken Singh came out at the Takhel Leikai area here, pulled down BJP flags and posters and burnt them in the streets even as the police had a hard time to control their ire. They also shouted slogans against chief minister N Biren Singh, Manipur unit party president

and other party leaders.
