IMPHAL: Chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday paid a surprise visit to Sinam Kom and Sanjenlok villages in Imphal East district to inspect the ongoing drilling works for ground water schemes taken up by the Manipur minor irrigation department.
While interacting with the villagers, the CM said without water, agriculture, horticulture or fishery can never take place.
“To boost these sectors, the state government has taken up a major project to install 550 groundwater tube wells and construct 375 surface minor irrigation schemes across the state,” he added.
Stating that his government has formed different committees to enhance production in these sectors, Biren said he would instruct these committees to visit the areas to identify suitable crops for them.
Informing that there is a high demand for organic products outside the state, he urged the villagers to produce only organic stuff. “The government will buy all your produce and hence they need not worry about market prices,” he added.
