Masked men loot over Rs 18 crore from PSU bank in Manipur's Ukhrul district

IMPHAL: Masked armed robbers looted Rs 18.80 crore from public sector bank in Manipur's Ukhrul district. This branch of Punjab National Bank serves as the currency chest, holding cash allocated by the Reserve Bank of India for banks and ATMs in Ukhrul district.

Armed with advanced weapons, the robbers arrived at the bank in Ukhrul town, approximately 80 km from the state capital Imphal. They subdued the security personnel, threatened the staff, and looted the funds from the vault on Thursday evening.

The culprits, some of whom donned camouflage uniforms, confined the employees and security personnel inside the bank's washroom.

Under threat of a gun, one of the senior staff members was compelled to open the vault, leading to the subsequent looting of the money by the robbers.

Authorities have initiated the examination of CCTV footage to identify the culprits.

A report has been filed at the Ukhrul police station.
