Manipur trans body seeks strict action against Kuki rebels

Imphal: Taking serious note of the violation of ceasefire ground rules by Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement, a group of trans women of the state on Wednesday urged governor Anusuiya Uikey to control and punish the violators.
A memorandum to this effect was submitted to the governor by leaders of Maruploi Foundation, a body representing trans women. It said, “Please pass an immediate order to halt the current communal crisis and please inculcate the Kuki SoO militants to abide by the ground rules of the SoO for restoring peace in the state.”
Signed by Bonita Pebam, programme manager of the foundation, the memo also sought prioritisation of relief and rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons.
It also urged the Centre to ensure all security forces, including Assam Rifles “to carry out their duties in an impartial and fair manner.”
Meanwhile, the United Naga Council , a conglomerate of several Naga civil bodies of the state, has appealed to both the warring communities to pave the way forward in a peaceful manner.
