In a Facebook post on Saturday, chief minister N Biren Singh stated, “Cremation cost for

Covid

victims will now be borne by the state government. I have interacted with Covid patients in home isolation for the second day today through video conference. Through these interactions I have learnt about the challenges faced by the families who are grieving the death of loved ones.”

Earlier, Rs 15,000 was charged for cremation and disposal of dead bodies at Bazar Board cremation site in Minuthong and Rs 8000 by local crematoriums. Considering the trauma and financial burden faced by these families, the state government has decided to bear the cost of cremation, said Biren.

Talking about his experience of interacting with patients who are in home isolation, the CM said that such sessions will continue everyday at 7 pm till all the patients recovered.

Biren said that the sessions were held to understand their grievances, actually feelings and their expectations from the government. He further said that as a person who had already been infected by the virus, he assured everybody that the disease could be cured within 14 days if it was detected early.
