IMPHAL: Manipur police rescued a 22-year-old student identified as Laishram Chinglen Singh on Saturday and arrested eight suspected cadres of a militant outfit for abducting him for ransom from the hostel of DM College of Science in Imphal on Friday afternoon reports.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the abductors were associated with Kanglipak Communist Party-People's War Group (KCP-PWG), a police officer said. The rescue mission was initiated following a complaint at 1am on Saturday. The abductors had demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh, threatening to kill the student if the demand was not met. A cache of arms and munition were confiscated from the suspects, including an AK-47 rifle and a samurai sword.
