Manipur sports minister Letpao Haokip joins BJP

Ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for 2020, Manipur youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip on Wednesday left the National People’s Party and joined Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

GUWAHATI: Ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for 2020, Manipur youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip on Wednesday left the National People’s Party and joined Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
NPP, which is led by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, together with Naga People’s Front (NPP), Lok Janashakti Party (LJP), TMC had helped BJP form its first government in the state in 2017 by stitching an alliance.

Haokip, who had won from Chandel constituency in 2017 on NPP ticket, joined BJP in New Delhi where he said that “under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the northeast region and Manipur will be developed.”
Union minister and BJP in-charge for Manipur, Bhupender Yadav tweeted, “I welcome Shri Letpao Haokip ji to the Bhajpa Parivar. Heartening to see the BJP family grow bigger.”
Last month one sitting and an expelled Congress legislator Yamthong Haokip and RK Imo Singh respectively had joined BJP.
