With BJP headed for a majority win in the assembly election in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh and state party unit President A Sharda Devi led celebrations at the party office here on Thursday.

BJP pockets 27 seats in 60-member House, leads in five

The BJP looked all set to return to power in insurgency-hit Manipur, with the party bagging 27 seats in the 60-member Assembly and leading in five other constituencies, according to the latest data on the Election Commission website. The NPP, which is a part of the incumbent government, and Nitish Kumar's JD(U) bagged as many as six seats each, the data available at 7.30pm revealed.

BJP wins 20, set to be single largest party

According to the latest update by the Election Commission of India website, BJP has won 20 seats and is leading on 14. JD(U) won 5 and leading on one while Congress won 4 seats.

The BJP secured 37.5 per cent votes counted so far, while the Congress stood second with 16.53 per cent votes and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma's National People's Party (NPP) came third with 16.48 per cent votes. Incumbent Chief Minister N Biren Singh of the BJP has won by a margin of over 17,000 votes from the Heingang constituency against Congress rival Pangeijam Saratchandra Singh (ANI)

Kh Raghumani, a BJP candidate, defeated NPP challenger Y Joykumar by 909 votes in the Uripok Constituency. Raghumani received 8335 votes, while Y Joykumar received 7426 votes.
