IMPHAL: A havildar of

Manipur Rifles

who was on poll duty at Churachandpur district on Monday reportedly died in a case of accidental firing from his service weapon, said official sources.

Ibochouba

from Kakching district’s Labungo Pareng area was detailed for poll duty at 53/37 Senvon (C) polling station in Tipaimukh constituency, said a statement issued by the office of Manipur Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

The CEO offered condolences and said Ibochouba’s body was recovered by officials concerned with the help of

Rapid Response Team

and was flown to Imphal by helicopter and kept at JNIMS morgue.

Sub-Inspector

(IO) and a magistrate accompanied the body, the statement said, adding that “it is suspected to be accidental firing from his service weapon.”
