IMPHAL: The Centre has constituted a three-member commission of inquiry headed by Justice (retd) Ajai Lamba as chairman to probe into the string of violent clashes triggered in Manipur since May 3, claiming more than 90 lives and leaving a trail of destruction.


“Besides Justice Lamba, former Chief Justice of the Guwahati HC, two other members of the high-level panel include Himanshu Sekhar Das, a retd IAS officer, and Aloka Prabhakar, a retd IPS officer,” said a notification issued by MHA.

The commission shall submit its report to the Centre “as soon as possible but not later than six months for the date of its first sitting,” it said, adding that the headquarters of the panel shall be in Imphal.

The terms of reference of the commission, according to the notification, include the causes and spread of violence and riots targeting members of different communities, which took place in the state on May 3 and thereafter, and the sequence of events leading to, and all the facts relating to such violence.
