In his resignation letter, Radheshyam said he took the decision to resign as he has “not been given any responsibility so far,” even as political analysts opined that his move may have certain impacts within the ruling party.

Radheshyam’s resignation coincided with the first anniversary celebrations of the second-consecutive term of the BJP-led state government at the Senapati district headquarters.

A former IPS officer, Radheshyam added that he would like to contribute and focus on the ensuing Lok Sabha election and “also development works in my constituency”.

In a video message released by him, the MLA said he resigned on moral ground as he could not take up development programmes as per people’s wish at his Heirok constituency in Thoubal district.

A Sainik School alumnus, Radheshyam won for the second consecutive term in the state assembly polls in March last year after defeating Congress strongman M Oken Singh

In the previous BJP-led government, he was the education, labour and employment minister before Biren dropped him during a major rejig in his council of ministers in September, 2020.

Radheshyam said since the last few days he has received several calls from people, including his workers and voters, who complained about the bad road conditions in his Heirok constituency.

Many retired government employees of the constituency also mentioned about the pending pension benefits that they could not draw from the government.

“As the adviser to the CM, I cannot execute such works for the betterment of my constituency. I also have no power despite holding such post,” said Radheshayam.

BJP gained power for the second time in a row after winning absolute majority with 32 seats in the 60-member House in the 12th Manipur legislative assembly polls.

Biren was yet to respond to Radheshyam’s resignation at the time of filing the report.
