IMPHAL: Security forces have destroyed 21 illegal bunkers in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, where a BSF personnel was recently shot dead, police said on Sunday.
In a separate operation, forces also seized 13 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Tengnoupal district.
According to the police statement, 14 bunkers were demolished in Sikibung village and seven in Mongkot Chepu, both under Litan police station, on Saturday.
Authorities also recovered 11 empty cartridge shells from the sites. Police said the bunkers had been illegally constructed by armed miscreants.
The crackdown comes days after a BSF constable from West Bengal was shot dead while on duty near Mongkot Chepu village.
Officials said he was hit by a bullet fired from an unknown direction.
In another operation in the Moreh area of Tengnoupal district, security forces seized a cache of arms and ammunition, including two 9mm pistols with magazines, two combat uniforms and 13 IEDs.
The explosive devices were later destroyed at the site, the statement added.
