IMPHAL: Lungaiphun Makhuam (52), whose three family members are feared buried under the debris at Tupul, only found two gas cylinders probably used by them.

The huge landslide hit the Tupul Yard Railway Construction camp in the Zeliangrong-Naga dominated Noney district in Manipur.

Over 45 people, including Makhuam’s son Kabamgai, his wife Chunthuiliu and their two-year-old daughter Jenthouliu are feared buried under the debris. The three were putting up at the construction camp as Kabamgai had worked in a private firm engaged by the railways, said Makhuam.

Makuam, who is the chairman of Marangring Part 4 village located about 20 km from the spot, said a couple of villagers are also missing. “Just after midnight, I received a call informing me that a huge landslide has struck the construction camp,” he said. “I realised all my three family members were buried under the debris with no chance to survive. I could not sleep the whole night,” he added.

Though he couldn’t retrieve the trio’s bodies, he recovered an empty gas cylinder and a filled one probably belonging to them from the spot. “I saw the two cylinders at my son’s kitchen during my visit a few days ago. ”
