Hyderabad: The newest state of India, Telangana, has a young population like the rest of the country. But, there may be a rapid change over the next 15 years with the proportion of people in the age group of 40 and above expected to rise by 42.5%, resulting in a 15.9% decrease in the share, according to the estimate of the Telangana Statistics Abstract 2021 report, released on Wednesday.
The estimates of the proportion of the people were made for 2036, using the 2011 census as a baseline.
Currently, 43.6% of the population in
Telangana is between the age of 15 and 40. “This would mean that the state is very young, has a good population dividend, and the main challenge would be creating jobs for them,” said finance special chief secretary
Ramakrishna Rao.
According to the report, the average male (69.4 years) and female (73.2 years) life expectancy at birth in the state is higher than the national level of 66.9 years and 70.3 years for male and female respectively.
