Women cricketer’s house demolished

Hyderabad: GHMC officials demolished Hyderabad women’s cricketer Bhogi Shravani’s house near Tukaram Gate in Secunderabad on Wednesday evening over its ‘dilapidated’ condition. Shravani addressed the media on Friday as her family was forced to take shelter at a community hall. She said she had lodged a complaint with the Tukaram police.
Shravani has been living in the house for the past 35 years after her mother’s relatives gave it to them.The cricketer said that she was gearing up to leave for the Women’s T20 league at Puducherry, but now considering the circumstances, she will have to let go of her aspirations for the time being.
GHMC sources said that the house was dilapidated and on the verge of collapsing. They said prior notice was issued and action was taken. However, Shravani claimed that the house was renovated and a damaged wall fixed. She alleged officials failed to check the status of the house before demolition. “They threw all our household items and quickly demolished the house. No one was there to help and now we have no place to go,” Shravani said.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association came to her aid stating that they would provide financial support to rebuild her house. “The Hyderabad Cricket Association is deeply saddened to hear about the demolition of the house in which Hyderabad cricketer Bhogi Shravani was living. The Apex Council members express their deep sorrow at the way authorities have acted against the cricketer and her family. We request officials to look into the matter and ensure that justice is done to the cricketer,” HCA secretary Vijayanand said on Friday. Shravani’s father works as a plumber and her mother is a housewife.
