Woman steals gold from shop, nabbed

Hyderabad: Saroornagar police on Thursday apprehended a woman for stealing gold ornaments from a jewellery shop at Kamala Nagar in Dilsukhnagar.
Police officials arrested the accused G Gouthami from her residence at Karmanghat in Saroornagar and seized property worth Rs 12 lakh.
According to police, Gouthami on December 31 visited the jewellery store and engaged the staff in showcasing various gold ornaments.Seizing an opportune moment, she diverted the attention of the salesman and replaced the original gold ornaments with counterfeit ones.
When the shop owners came to know about the missing ornaments, they approached the police. Upon receiving the complaint, police analysed the CCTV camera footage and identified Gouthami as the perpetrator. The police traced Gouthami to her residence in Karmanghat, where she was taken into custody.
Subsequent investigations revealed that this was not an isolated incident and Gouthami was involved in four similar cases. During the questioning of the accused, it emerged that financial difficulties, stemming from her husband's modest income as a junior artist in the film industry, had driven her to resort to theft.
