B Vijaya Bharathi Tarakam, writer and former filmmaker, Kondaveeti Sathyavathi, editor of a magazine, Dr Manisha Bangaru, social activist and K Bharathi, state president of the Telangana Organ Donors Association received the award for their contribution towards the cause of women and child welfare and their work for the backward classes.

The ceremony was attended by Union minister G Kishan Reddy, state minister Srinivas Goud, head of department of language and culture Mamidi Hari Krishna, government of Telangana advisor Dr KV Ramana Chary and MLA and chairperson of Eashwari Bai Memorial Trust Dr J Geetha Reddy. “This year we awarded women from the state to inspire and motivate others to work towards social welfare of the state,” said Dr Geetha Reddy. She added that despite the political differences among the various parties, it was Eashwari Bai’s work that brought everybody on the same stage.

Commemorating Eashwari Bai and Dr BR Ambedkar’s work for SCs and STs, Kishan Reddy said, “We belong to different political parties, but we need to work together on the path laid by Dr Ambedkar.”
