DCP, Medchal zone, N Koti Reddy said Ravula Kamal Kumar, 37, smothered J Shanthi to death on Aug 24 after picking up a heated argument with her over his missing mobile charger. Police suspect the accused believed Shanthi may have stolen his mobile charger.

Police said Shanthi ran a petty shop close to Kamal Kumar’s workplace in Dundigal. On Aug 21, he quarrelled with her over his missing mobile charger.

Three days later, he came back to her and picked up a quarrel again. In a fit of rage, he pushed her and in the process, she fell down on her back and suffered an injury on her head.

When Shanthi was writhing in severe pain and raised an alarm, a worried Kamal Kumar gagged her mouth and nose and killed her. “As he fled from the spot, his movements were caught on CCTV cameras and based on the clues, he was arrested,” police said.

Kamal Kumar was arrested in Gagillapur village in Quthbullapur mandal. The accused, who hails from Warangal, was produced before a court which sent him to judicial remand.
